Why The Retirement Lounge Podcast Exists
The Retirement Lounge was born from a deep, personal passion for helping people navigate one of life’s biggest transitions – retirement. For Nick, retirement planning isn’t just a profession; it’s a calling. With decades of experience and a drive to continually learn, he considers himself a lifelong student of retirement.
Through years of working closely with individuals and families, including navigating the complexities of care fees for his own loved ones, Nick found that what people valued most was his ability to simplify daunting financial topics – like “how much is enough?” or “what exactly is a pension?” These experiences, paired with his love of podcasts, inspired him to create a space where he could share this knowledge more widely. And so, The Retirement Lounge was born.
Nick Hutchings is a Chartered Financial Planner at rockwealth Reading Ltd which is an appointed representative of rockwealth llp (610181) which is Authorised and Regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority.

The Retirement Lounge Podcast
Most people think a dementia diagnosis means life has to become smaller.
In this episode, Nick is joined by Fiona Pettit, who leads Dementia Adventure, a charity helping people with dementia and their carers stay connected to the outdoors, to nature, and to a sense of possibility.
They explore:
- Why dementia can make the world feel smaller.
- How outdoor experiences can support wellbeing, confidence and connection.
- The role of carers, and why support matters for them too.
- How shared experiences can still create joy, laughter and meaningful memories.
- Why life doesn’t have to stop after a diagnosis.
It’s a thoughtful conversation about dementia, care, and the importance of remembering what is still possible.
